Van Beveren back on the podium

For the second time since the start of the event, Adrien Van Beveren was the fastest during the 9th stage of the Dakar 2024. The Frenchman took the opportunity to take third place in a general classification which saw Ricky Brabec take over the broad facing Ross Branch.

Adrien Van Beveren does not intend to let his first podium on the Dakar slip away. Dislodged from third place this Sunday by José Ignacio Cornejo Florimo, the Frenchman responded this Tuesday during the 9th stage of the famous rally-raid. Although he got off to a cautious start, the Honda driver was in the lead until the fourth intermediate point, located after 135 kilometers of racing. The part offering tar and stones then benefited Ricky Brabec, the leader of the general classification taking control until the penultimate crossing point, located 22 kilometers from the finish line drawn in AlUla , from where the race started on January 5. A final sector which then saw Adrien Van Beveren give everything to seek a second stage victory on this Dakarafter that acquired during the 6th stage, the fifth since the start of his career in the event.

Brabec gets closer to the goal

The Tricolore thus beat Ricky Brabec by 42 seconds at the end of the 417 kilometers of timed sector. Riding his Honda, the American achieved the very good operation of the day. Indeed, after gaining 41 seconds at Ross Branch this Monday, the winner of the 2020 edition took a further step towards a second success on the roads of the Dakar. Only fifth in the stage, Ross Branch performed poorly. Conceding just over six minutes on this special stage alone, the Botswana native is now seven minutes behind the leader of the general classification. A podium which therefore sees Adrien Van Beveren take third place from José Ignacio Cornejo Florimo, the Chilean losing ten minutes on the Frenchman this Tuesday. There are now two and a half minutes between the two drivers with three more stages to go before the final finish at Yanbu this Friday.
