The terrible confession of Vincent Labrune

The terrible confession of Vincent Labrune

While he hoped to obtain 1 billion euros per year for Ligue 1 TV rights, Vincent Labrune, the president of the LFP, is lowering his ambitions.

There was an executive committee of the French Football Federation (FFF) on Saturday afternoon. And Vincent Labrune, the president of the LFP, made an appearance to discuss one of the hot topics in French football at the moment: TV rights for Ligue 1.

According to L’Equipe, Vincent Labrune played the frankness card. In the absence of an agreement with a broadcaster, the League could resolve to create its own channel in order to broadcast the matches itself, via Bouygues, Free, SFR or even Orange boxes. This is the famous “plan B”, with a channel that would cost its subscribers 25 euros.

The billion is over!

It was at that moment that Vincent Labrune made this admission. While he dreamed of a billion euros for his French championship, the boss of the LFP is now counting on 500 million euros. Please note, this is not half as much as the initial plan, since the former president of OM still hopes to recover 200 million euros in international rights. Or at least between 150 and 170 million euros, as Labrune told the League’s board of directors this week.
