Tänak triumphs in front of Neuville

Finnish Ott Tänak won the Chile rally this Sunday ahead of Belgian Thierry Neuville. In 4th position, the Finnish Kalle Rovanperä is nevertheless getting closer to the title of world champion.

A victory from start to finish. This weekend in Chile, Ott Tänak led the debates from the first day on Friday, he widened the gap on Saturday before concluding in apotheosis on Sunday. At the wheel of his Ford Puma M-Sport he tamed the capricious and fatal South American tracks for many drivers, including his teammate, the Frenchman Pierre-Louis Loubet who was forced to retire. In the running for a place on the second step of the podium, battling with his teammate at Hyundai, Thierry Neuville, the Finn experienced an impressive off-road accident but fortunately escaped unscathed during the 15th special. Toyota sacré, Rovanperä attendra

This abandonment left the field open to the Belgian Thierry Neuville who had the merit of closing the gap of more than one minute with Ott Tänak at the end of the second day (+42sec). The latter was clearly in control this Sunday to ensure his second victory of the season. The Welshman Elfyn Evans finished this Chile rally in 3rd position, one place ahead of his teammate and championship leader, Kalle Rovanperä. He now has 217 points while his runner-up, Elfyn Evans, has 186 with two events remaining in the WRC.. This situation greatly satisfies Toyota, which has already won the title of world manufacturers’ champion, ahead of Hyundai.

On the French side, Yohan Rossel completed this Chile rally at the wheel of his Citroën WRC2 in 9th place, giving him two points in the general classification of which he occupies 15th place.
