Strong words from Gasly

Strong words from Gasly

As he expected, Pierre Gasly is struggling at the start of the season with Alpine. But a few days before the fourth round of the championship, in Japan, the French driver says he does not want to give up and hopes for better days.

A year ago, after the first three Grands Prix of the season, Pierre Gasly already had four points on the clock thanks to two ninth places at the wheel of his Alpine. Today, as the fourth round of the 2024 season looms, in Japan, the French driver would sign with both hands to finish ninth… As expected from the pre-season tests, the Alpine 2024 is “badly born” and difficult to know if it will be able to improve over the races. Eighteenth in Bahrain, forced to retire in Saudi Arabia and thirteenth in Australia, Pierre Gasly knows that he cannot hope for better for the moment, as he confided to Autosport.

“Last year, at this time, I was racing with Carlos (Sainz) for fourth place. This year (in Australia, editor’s note), he wins the race and I am 13th. So I’m not having a lot of fun, but I know what position we’re in. And I know we’re not going to stay there, and I trust the team to find solutions to improve performance. But we need more performance to be able to fight for points,” explains Esteban Ocon’s teammate who, for his part, has not done better than thirteenth this season.

Gasly: “It takes time”

Pierre Gasly (28 years old) does not intend to give up and hopes for better days. “Once I’m in the car, I’m like an animal. I want to do the best I can with what I have in my hands, he promises. As long as we’re learning and moving forward, that’s the most important thing. I know the team is working very hard, and I can see some of the directions they are taking to improve the package we have. I know we will improve, but it takes time. » In this extended 2024 season, he still has 21 Grands Prix left to do his best…
