Sébastien Ogier, the official announcement

The Toyota team will be in force at the Rally Finland in early August, with five drivers, including Frenchman Sébastien Ogier.

From August 1st to 4th, the Rally Finland will be held, the ninth round of the World Rally Championship. And for this race in Jyväskylä, in the middle of the lakes, the Toyota team will be present with five drivers, including Sébastien Ogier. The 40-year-old from Gapençais is competing part-time this 2024 season, and has already taken part in the Monte Carlo (2nd), Croatia (victory), Portugal (victory) and Sardinia (second) rallies.

Last week, he was due to take part in the Rally Poland but was involved in an accident during reconnaissance and had to withdraw, after spending a night in hospital. This should not, however, prevent him from taking part in the Rally Latvia on 18th July, before heading to Finland.

Welshman Elfyn Evans and Japanese Takamoto Katsuta, who drive full-time for Toyota, will of course also be at the start in Finland, as will Kalle Rovanperä. The double world champion has also decided to contest the 2024 season and will be taking part in his fifth rally. He is the one who has just won in Poland, after being recalled at the last minute to replace Ogier.

Three world champions at the start

Toyota’s fifth man will be Sami Pajari, the 22-year-old Finn, promoted for the occasion to Rally1 while he competes in Rally2 (where he is second in the standings behind Citroën’s Frenchman Yohan Rossel). Jari-Matti Latvala, the current team boss, winner of 18 WRC rallies, will have a little fun driving the Toyota in Rally2.

“It’s great to have ten cars in Rally1 at the start, three of which are driven by Finns, which is a good thing for us, said Kai Tarkiainen, Rally Finland race director. We will have three world champions on the roads with Kalle Rovanperä, Sébastien Ogier and Ott Tänak, who will have to surpass themselves to beat the defending champion Elfyn Evans.”

Since its inception in 1951, Rally Finland has only been won by eight non-Finnish or non-Swedish drivers: Spaniard Carlos Sainz, Frenchmen Didier Auriol, Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier, Estonians Markko Märtin and Ott Tänak and Britons Kris Meeke and Elfyn Evans.
