Rovanperä closer and closer

Rovanperä closer and closer

This Saturday morning, Finnish Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota) moved a little closer to the title of WRC world rally champion.

The 2023 WRC rally season is about to deliver its verdict. This Saturday morning, as the eleventh special stage of the Central European WRC rally ended, the Finnish Kalle Rovanperä, reigning world champion and resident of the Toyota team, is virtual world champion of the specialty. Indeed, the Briton Elfyn Evans, his last great rival for this long-awaited coronation, was the victim of an accident. This Saturday, the Toyota driver skidded, before hitting a barn, during the eleventh special of the day. Before this accident, the Briton was third in the general classification, behind leader Rovanperä and Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai).

Japan, last WRC rally of the season

In terms of the general classification of the specialty world championship, the Finn now has a 31-point lead over Evans. A driver cannot score more than 30 per round. Knowing that there will only be one left at the end of this Central European WRC rally. It will be in mid-November, on the Japanese side. If Evans’ car could be repaired in time, then the Briton could take part in the very last stage of this WRC rally this Sunday, namely the “Power Stage”. Only the first five drivers will be able to score points. If Rovanperä retires before the end of this same rally, this would allow Evans to maintain a small chance of fighting for the title until the end.
