Rally Kenya: Rovanperä was easy

This Sunday, the Finnish Kalle Rovanperä, double reigning world champion, very easily won the WRC rally in Kenya. Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux once again climbs onto the podium.

Kalle Rovanperä had no competition. This Sunday, the Finn, at the wheel of his Toyota, won the Kenya WRC rally, the third round counting for the specialty world championship. The reigning double world champion left absolutely no chance to his opponents of the day, on muddy or dusty tracks, to win an event considered to be the most difficult of this world championship.

At the finish, his first pursuer in the general classification is one of his teammates in the person of the Japanese Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota), pushed back almost 1 min 38 sec (1’37″8). Rovanperä signs a twelfth success since the start of his WRC career. On the podium, as on the Swedish side, we find Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux (M-Sport/Ford).

Neuville remains leader of the world championship

The latter knew how to seize his chance, after the great difficulties experienced by the Hyundais. One of the residents of this team, namely the Belgian Thierry Neuville, had to be content with fifth place overall, after experiencing major fuel pump problems. As of this Friday, the Finnish Esapekka Lappi, winner of the previous rally which took place in Sweden, as well as the Estonian Ott Tänak were forced to retire.

The two men nevertheless managed to score a few points, thanks to the calculation method established in the WRC which allows them to grab a few on Sunday, also including the Power Stage, won by Neuville. The Belgian takes the opportunity to stay at the top of the world championship rankings.
