Pascal Praud, the dismissal that does not pass

The former Téléfoot reporter, now the leading figure of CNews, reacted strongly to the dismissal of journalist Jean-François Achilli from France Info.

Whether at TF1, where he worked for twenty years, mainly at Téléfoot, at FC Nantes, where he only passed through, or at RTL last summer, Pascal Praud always left on his own. Jean-François Achilii, political journalist at France Info, was not so lucky.

Suspended as a precautionary measure since mid-March following an article in Monde implicating him, the editorialist was in fact dismissed for serious misconduct by Radio France, its managers reproaching him “repeated breaches of ethical obligations regarding external collaborations”. Le Monde revealed on March 13 his participation in the writing of the autobiography of Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally.

According to an internal investigation“repeated and various breaches appeared over a long period” to these obligations, management from FranceInfo estimating that a “red line has been crossed”. Questioned in the columns of ParisianJean-François Baille, its director, explained that « management must be informed and must validate any external collaboration project” in order to « remove conflicts of interest when they arise”, adding: “ That a journalist knows them and deliberately and repeatedly violates them puts us under an obligation to react. »

“It’s a shame for our profession!” »

These justifications were obviously not to the taste of Pascal Praud, who gave a resounding rant on the set of his show on CNews, L’Heure des Pros. “ I don’t remember a news director coming to Le Parisien explain why he fired one of his journalists. Frankly, I don’t remember it in the French press,” he whispered, asserting: “It’s a shame for our profession!” »

« Jean-Philippe Baille, he is nothing at Franceinfo. The news director is useless! Those are the unions that decide, he keeps his place! It is everything he does! Mr. Baille is the man who fires one of his colleagues for nothing! He kicks him out! I hope he dares to look at himself in the mirror”he added, considering that this decision was only “ policy » and saying about Jean-François Achilli: “He is 61 years old. He went through professional life. He is thrown like a dog! He is humiliated, his honor is sullied. This is not appropriate! »
