Loeb will hurt Ogier again…

Sébastien Ogier will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June and the comparison with Sébastien Loeb will once again be difficult to bear…

It’s now official. As expected for several weeks, Sébastien Ogier, who decided, after his eighth title won last fall, to take a step back from the WRC, will participate in the world endurance championship (WEC) and therefore in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Gapençais will race at the wheel of an LMP2 Oreca prototype in the colors of the Richard Mille team and will compete alongside two drivers with very limited experience: Charles Milesi (21 years old) and Lilou Wadoux (20 years old) who raced in WRT for the one and in Eurocup Alpine for the other.

The eight-time WRC world champion inevitably approaches this new adventure with measured ambitions. “ I am aware that the challenge is met, but I was looking for a program that motivates me more than choosing the easy way, he reacted in a press release. LMP2 is a superb category and the best way for me to access the highest level of Endurance and progress in this discipline. I’m clearly a novice, but I want to have fun while gauging what’s possible and seeing how close I can get to the best. »

This arrival in Endurance is obviously reminiscent of Sébastien Loeb’s foray into the discipline while he was competing in the WRC. A much more ambitious experience. In 2005, the Alsatian first joined the Pescarolo Sport team and teamed up, at the wheel of an LMP1 candidate for victory, with Qatari Soheil and Éric Helary, winner in 1993. Weary, after a good start to the race , the crew had been betrayed by the mechanics and forced to abandon. But the following year, success was much greater since this time with Éric Halery and Franck Montagny, he finished second, only ahead of an Audi.

Sébastien Ogier will therefore have a hard time following in the footsteps of his compatriot at the wheel of an LMP2, doomed to see the more powerful LMP1s monopolize the podiums.
