Laurent Luyat's confession about his youth

Laurent Luyat’s confession about his youth

Having become one of the most emblematic presenters of France Télévisions, Laurent Luyat has spared no effort to pursue his passion: sports journalism.

Laurent Luyat will be on all fronts this summer. Roland-Garros, Tour de France and obviously the Olympic and Paralympic Games, during which he will notably present alongside Léa Salamé “What Games! », the talk show which will close each day on France 2: the native of Isère will be omnipresent in the coming months. And if that wasn’t enough, the journalist will also host the presentation of the variety show Le Grand Concert des regions, the first number of which, dedicated to Aix-en-Provence and the South region, will be broadcast this Friday.

Laurent Luyat probably did not imagine such a trajectory when he was 20 years old on the airwaves of France Bleu Isère. “The editor-in-chief at the time was Robert Latxague, a Basque who was crazy about sport. He had placed great emphasis on sport. I presented the sports newspaper on Monday morning, there was a magazine on Friday noon, a multiplex on Saturday evening, the whole Sunday afternoon was devoted to sport, he said last fall during the 40 years of the station. In short, there were enough of us to cover all this news and I was the youngest. It must be said that at 20, I was 14. It wasn’t easy. So, I had to establish myself in this environment. That’s why I was high: to show what I was worth! »

Laurent Luyat had to wait three years

And Laurent Luyat thought he would lose everything when he went under the flag. “In 1988, I had to do my military service. Heartbreaking because I was afraid of losing my place on the radio, of being replaced. I miraculously found a place in Grenoble, in the Navy offices. This allowed me after 5 p.m. to rush to the radio and I stayed there until 11 p.m.he continued. At first, they were nice to me in the Army, but I only thought about the radio, and as time went on, they got a little fed up with me. And when I had to ask them for permission to leave during the week to comment on matches, they cried a little! »

But quickly, Laurent Luyat was able to prove himself on television, at France 3 Grenoble, where he notably presented Le magazine des sports and Le journal des Alpes. An adventure which served as a springboard for him to join the Sports department of France Télévisions. “In 1995, I sent a video cassette of the Sports program to the editor-in-chief of “Tout le Sport”, Jacques Ségui. But he told me that there were already presenters in place. Three years later, a place became available to present the show as a replacement during the summer and he thought of me. He managed to reach me. This is the moment when I set foot in Sports at France Télé, he explained to Sports Interview. They kept me on for all the vacation periods that followed and a year later, in 1999, I was established in the Sports department. »
