Kings World Cup, a very nice move from M6!

Before Euro 2024, of which it will broadcast thirteen matches, the M6 channel has acquired the rights to a brand new competition, the Kings World Cup, which will bring together several former stars of world football.

There’s excitement on the TV rights market. While 26 Euro 2024 matches still do not have a broadcaster in France less than three weeks before the start of the competition and the LFP is looking for a successor to Amazon Prime Video for Ligue 1, M6 has just achieve a nice coup by taking on one of the most anticipated tournaments of the summer: the Kings World Cup.

The first edition of this strange World Cup, designed by former Spanish defender Gerard Piqué, will be organized in Mexico from May 26 to June 8. It will bring together some former football stars, such as Samir Nasri and Jérémy Menez, who will be part of the French team called “Foot2Rue” and led by the famous streamer AmineMaTue.

Lots of stars at the Kings World Cup!

Other stars will be there, starting with Neymar Jr named coach of a Brazilian team, Furia FC, or Francesco Totti and Eden Hazard who will come out of retirement to play. Andriy Shevchenko and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez will also be present at this Kings World Cup, chaired by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

And all these beautiful people will therefore evolve under the cameras of M6, which will offer the meetings live and for free on its new streaming platform M6+. The first round will take place on May 26, 27 and 28. There will then be a second round on May 29, 30 and 31, before a “Last Chance” on June 2, at the end of which the round of 16 will be determined.

Secret weapons during matches

After the eighths (June 4 and 5) and the quarters (June 6), the last teams in the running will play a Final Four (June 8). The rules of the Kings World Cup will be the same as in the Kings League, with teams of seven players, two 20-minute halves, temporary expulsions and… secret weapons (double count goal, expulsion of the best player, penalty etc…).

The acquisition of the rights to this competition will allow M6 to launch its summer, which will be punctuated on the group’s broadcasts by Euro 2024, from June 14 to July 14. Because if for the moment half of the matches do not yet have a broadcaster in France, the sixth channel has obtained 13 matches, including the final. With the great return of Christophe Dugarry to the comments.
