“It’s a track that is part of history”

Before the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) spoke to L’Equipe about this race that was obviously special for him.

The 2024 Formula 1 season is underway. This weekend, the drivers are in Italy to compete in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. A necessarily special race for Monegasque Charles Leclerc, resident of the Italian Ferrari team. This Saturday, during an interview given to the French sports daily The teamthe pilot spoke on several subjects.

Like, for example, on this atmosphere which reigns near Imola and which is necessarily special for him: “It’s a track which is part of history. (…) I love it. Like all Grands Prix in Italy, whether Monza or Imola, every time we travel, there is an energy and an atmosphere that is simply exceptional. To make people dream, there is nothing better. And as a driver, it’s even more exceptional. It always feels good to arrive in Italy for a race. (…) »

Leclerc: “I do my job as best as I can”

Since the start of this exercise, it is the Austrian team Red Bull which has outrageously dominated the debates. Its best representative, the Dutchman Max Verstappen, three-time reigning world champion, has even won four of the six Grands Prix already contested. Charles Leclerc, for his part, has not triumphed for two very long years: “I don’t think about it every day. And it must not become a fixed idea. I do my job as best as I can. Even in Las Vegas, where I do everything perfectly, there is a lack of success. (…) It’s motorsport. I’m convinced that if we all do our best, whether it’s working in the factory, preparing for the track, me driving, victory will come. The first is always something special because you prove to yourself that you can do it. Now it’s a matter of repeating it, something we haven’t done for two years and which we must do again as quickly as possible. »
