Hervé Mathoux pays tribute to “his friend” sentenced to prison

Famous presenter of Canal Football Club, Hervé Mathoux paid tribute to “his friend”, Mourad Zeghidi, sentenced to prison in Tunisia for an offense of opinion.

While Euro 2024 began on Friday evening with a defeat by Germany against Scotland (5-1), the famous presenter of Canal Football Club, Hervé Mathoux, had a thought for one of his friends , Mourad Zeghidi. The latter was sentenced to one year in prison by the Tunisian courts on May 22 for criticizing the power of President Kaïs Saïed.

Zeghidi received a year in prison for criticizing the Tunisian president

The two men had rubbed shoulders within Canal +, where Zeghidi officiated as a commentator on Italian football in L’Equipe du Dimanche, a program broadcast from 1990 to 2016 every Sunday evening.

Having become a political journalist in Tunisia, Mourad Zeghidi was prosecuted for broadcasting “false information (…) with the aim of defaming others or damaging their reputation”, under a law promulgated in 2022 by President Saïed and criticized for its very broad interpretation.
