Hamilton, Quartararo’s big revelation

Fabio Quartararo told Autosport that he was aware that Lewis Hamilton was going to join Ferrari in 2025, even before the news was made official.

On February 1, the Ferrari team announced the arrival of Lewis Hamilton from 2025, and this “transfer of the century”, as it was called, surprised everyone, including Formula 1 specialists. Fabio Quartararo did not fall out of his chair when he heard the news, as he revealed in an interview with Autosport.

“It was strange, because I was visiting Maranello a few days before the announcement and Piero Ferrari (the son of Enzo, the founder of the team, editor’s note) suggested it to me. But at that time I didn’t know how to interpret it, I didn’t understand. I didn’t believe it until it became official. » The former MotoGP world champion, like many, believes that “it will be strange to see him dressed in red”. “I always remember Lewis at Mercedes. I don’t even remember his time at McLaren,” he laughs. It is true that when the English driver defended the colors of McLaren, Fabio Quartararo was still very young, he was between 8 and 12 years old.

Hamilton and Quartararo are close

Lewis Hamilton and Fabio Quartararo, who have a few sponsors in common (Petronas and Monster Energy in particular), are close. The Yamaha driver really likes Formula 1 and the Mercedes driver has often been seen in MotoGP paddocks. The two men, who are fourteen years apart, even spent a vacation together in the summer of 2022. During the 2022 French Grand Prix, the French driver got into the Mercedes at Le Castellet, and a test was even mentioned , but it ultimately did not take place.

This February, Fabio Quartararo and Lewis Hamilton are both preparing for their respective upcoming seasons. The Frenchman is in Qatar this Monday, on the Losail circuit, for a first day of tests before the season kicks off on March 10, on this same circuit. As for the English driver, he will take part in pre-season testing from Wednesday at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain, where the season will begin on March 2.
