Hamilton fastest, Gasly fourth

On his Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton set the best time in the second free practice session of the Barcelona GP. Pierre Gasly (Alpine) took a good fourth place.

After Lando Norris at the start of the afternoon, it was Lewis Hamilton’s turn to set the best time in the free practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix, which took place without major incident. The Mercedes driver succeeded the McLaren driver by setting one of his 28 laps in 1’13″264 (compared to 1’14″228 for his compatriot a few hours earlier).

Following the momentum of his first session, Lando Norris was the first to place himself at the top of the timesheet, on medium tires, then he was overtaken by George Russell (Mercedes). Most of the drivers then put on soft tires, and Carlos Sainz Jr took the lead shortly before the halfway point of the session. And it was after 33 minutes of the session that Lewis Hamilton came to set his time of 1’13″264, which no one has improved. In the end, the seven-time world champion was ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr by 22 thousandths and Lando Norris by 55.

The Alpines are in the game!

And in fourth place, we find the surprising Pierre Gasly! After finishing in the points at the last two Grands Prix, the Alpine driver is confident and finished 179 thousandths behind Hamilton. Finally the end of the troubles for Alpine, which also saw Esteban Ocon take ninth place? Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s race (which could take place in the rain) will allow us to find out more.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) took fifth place, ahead of Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Oscar Piastri (McLaren). In the last places, more than a second and a half from Hamilton, we find the two Williams of Alexander Albon and Logan Sargeant. The third session will take place on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and qualifying at 4:00 p.m.
