Gasly extends!

Gasly extends!

The Alpine team announced this Thursday the extension of Pierre Gasly’s contract for several seasons. It now remains to be seen who will accompany him next year, and it could be Carlos Sainz Jr.

End of suspense at Alpine! A few weeks after announcing that Esteban Ocon would pack his bags at the end of the season, the French team formalized this Thursday the extension of the contract of its other driver, Pierre Gasly, for several seasons. Arriving last year from AlphaTauri, the 28-year-old from Normandy convinced his managers to trust him for the future, and in particular the 2026 season which will mark the entry into force of new technical regulations in Formula 1.

“I feel very comfortable in this great team. I like being part of the Formula 1 project and the broader vision of Alpine Cars, reacted Pierre Gasly. I have officially been here for over 18 months and I have always intended to build a long-term project with the team. Although it has been a difficult season on the track so far, I am sticking to the plan and not going anywhere. I am happy with the changes made, the work accomplished and the direction the team is taking. The personnel and resources of this team hold great potential. I’m excited for the future and, for now, I’m focused on the day-to-day details we implement to improve our performance. »

Alpine in progress

“The extension of Pierre’s contract with the team is very satisfactory,” said Bruno Famin, the team boss. He is a driver who has great experience in Formula 1 and who continues to show enormous potential on the track. For Alpine as a brand, he is an excellent ambassador and we therefore look forward to continuing our collaboration. While this is important for our future, we must remain alert to what lies ahead and focus on improving our current formula.
We have big ambitions for this season and we will work tirelessly to achieve them.” After a disastrous start to the season (one point in the first seven Grands Prix), Alpine seems to be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Since Pierre Gasly took a point in Monaco, even though he was hit by his teammate early in the race (which precipitated the announcement of Ocon’s departure at the end of the season), the French team has scored three points in Canada and three in Spain. Seventh in the constructors’ standings, Alpine is not where it would like to be, but at least the momentum is positive.

Sainz Jr approaching

The French team also announced in today’s press release that it will reveal “in due time” the name of Pierre Gasly’s future teammate. The favorite is now Carlos Sainz Jr, who will leave Ferrari to make way for Lewis Hamilton

According to The teamthe return of Flavio Briatore to the team, the possibility of seeing Alpine equip itself with a Mercedes engine and the possibility of only signing for the 2025 season alone would be arguments about to convince the Spaniard, who was nevertheless preparing to sign with Williams. The next few weeks will reveal more.
