David Ginola, the violent divorce

David Ginola took advantage of an interview on Nouvelle Ere to settle his scores with M6, not digesting his ouster from the presentation of “France has incredible talent”.

Broadcaster of Euro 2024 alongside TF1 and beIN Sports, M6 has treated itself to a luxury consultant in the person of Christophe Dugarry, who made his grand return to commentary for the occasion. On set, alongside Smaïl Bouabdellah and Carine Galli, Alain Boghossian and Laurie Samama are officiating.

An iconic face of the channel until 2020, David Ginola no longer has a say in the matter following his ouster for “financial reasons” after having worked there for four years, notably as the host of the show “La France a un incroyable talent”. And it is an understatement to say that the reasons put forward by M6 to justify his dismissal did not convince the person concerned.

« Would my contract have really made a difference to the group’s dividends? I didn’t force anyone to pay me!, he said in an interview with Nouvelle ère, the Nice-Matin magazine, taking care to add: “I could even have made concessions if I had been asked.”

“A real family sticks together”

“The official excuse was Covid. The postponement of the European Championship,” he added, adding another layer to the ways of doing things of the leaders of the sixth channel: “I had some great experiences there, and I thank them for that, but in those moments, a real family sticks together. I didn’t really understand the fact that I was so disregarded.”

Having returned to Canal+, where he is confined to a consulting role, David Ginola has other aspirations. “I still want to host an American-style late show, like a bistro conversation. I think that the human side necessarily comes out when you are honest and natural with others,”
he explained, adding: “Regarding TV, I have reservations. Unlike football, there is no meritocracy. It is enough for someone not to like your face, for you to have a slightly blunt moment, for everything to stop, whereas I had projected myself into this profession.”
