Dakar: Schareina opens her counter

The Spanish rider from the Honda team Tosha Schareina won the prologue of the Dakar this Friday in Saudi Arabia, in the motorcycle category.

Let’s go for the 2024 Dakar! The 46th edition of the world’s most famous rally-raid began this Friday in Saudi Arabia, with a 27-kilometer prologue around Al Ula. And the first winner in the motorcycle category is Tosha Schareina! Thirteenth in the Dakar last year and in 2021, the Spanish driver from the Honda team is competing in his first Dakar as an official driver, and he won his first victory in the race by winning by just over 17 minutes.

The Valencian was twelve seconds ahead of the Australian Daniel Sanders (Gasgas), seventh in the 2023 Dakar, and by 19 seconds the Botswanan pilot Ross Branch (Hero), winner of two stages last year. The best French chance in motorcycling this year, Schareina’s Honda teammate Adrien Van Beveren finished just off the podium, while Argentine title holder Kevin Benavides (KTM) finished ninth. With ten drivers classified in the same minute, this prologue should not have any impact on the final general classification, but it will mainly serve to determine the starting order of the first stage, which will take the drivers to Al Henakiyah on Saturday , with 414km of special between volcanoes. The racing drivers set off a little later in this 2024 edition.

Ranking of the motorcycle prologue (Al Ula – Al Ula, 27km) and general ranking – Friday January 5, 2024

2- Daniel Sanders (AUS/Gasgas) at 12″
3- Ross Branch (BOT/Hero) at 19″
