Alpine is not for sale

In an interview with the British weekly Autocar, the general director of the Renault group Luca De Meo affirms that the Alpine team is not for sale, and that he hopes that the results will improve in the coming months, in the meantime the new regulations of 2026.

Currently penultimate in the manufacturers’ standings with two points taken in eight Grands Prix, the Alpine team is experiencing a difficult first part of the season. To make matters worse, his two cars collided at the start of the most followed Grand Prix of the year, in Monaco, which provoked jeers… and the anticipated announcement of the departure of Esteban Ocon (which provoked the accident with Pierre Gasly) at the end of the season. The French team is in bad shape, but that doesn’t mean it is for sale.

In any case, this is what Luca De Meo, the president of the Renault group, said in an interview with the British weekly Autocar. “I want to be very clear. There is no question of us giving up. It’s not my type. We will not even sell part of this project. We don’t need money. People made me offers left and right, then talked about it in the press. But we are not interested. That would be stupid and I won’t do it. »

De Meo: “We are not here to be 16th”

Over the past year, many changes have taken place within the team, which have not necessarily improved results, and the manager assures that there will be others. The objective is now to prepare for 2026, the year when the new regulations (unveiled this Thursday) will be put in place. But without completely abandoning the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

“For this year and 2025, we will try (to improve) with the current configuration, then we will work to improve things for the next cycle. This is the challenge. But we will do whatever is necessary to be a competitive team. I expect a much better performance from the team. We are not here to be 16th. We should be in the loop as often as possible. » This weekend in Canada, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon will try to finish in the points, something they have not yet achieved this year at the same Grand Prix.
