Al-Attiyah and Loeb teammates on the Dakar

After seven seasons at Toyota, Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah, five-time winner of the Dakar, signed up with Prodrive for the 2024 season and therefore joins a certain Sébastien Loeb.

Nasser Al-Attiyah and Sébastien Loeb will be teammates on the next Dakar! The five-time winner of the event (2011, 2015, 2019, 2022, 2023) has indeed joined the one who dreams of finally winning it after finishing second three times (2017, 2022, 2023), with the Prodrive team. The news was made official this Thursday, and therefore marks the end of the adventure of the 52-year-old Qatari driver with Toyota, whose colors he has worn since 2017, always accompanied by his French co-driver Matthieu Baumel, of course.

« The duo will be entered to compete under the name ‘Nasser Racing’ and managed by Prodrive alongside Sébastien Loeb and Fabian Lurquin in the Bahrain Raid Xtreme (BRX) team to form one of the strongest rally duos seen since many years. Five other Prodrive Hunters will also participate in the 2024 Dakar in the hands of the X Rally (Brazil) and YunXiang (China) teams, making a total of seven cars on the Prodrive Dakar bivouac,” specifies the press release from the British team.

Al-Attiyah wants to win with a fourth manufacturer

“It’s a very special feeling to come to Prodrive because I have seen over the last three years that the team has worked very hard to get to where they are today with the Hunter,” commented Nasser Al -Attiyah. I am very happy to join the Prodrive team with Mathieu because I think it will be one of the strongest in the sport. Over the years I have won with three different manufacturers in Rally Raid, but winning with a fourth car is an important goal for us. We’re really looking forward to it. »

It now remains to be seen whether its Prodrive will be as efficient as its Toyota from the last edition. During the 2023 Dakar, Toyota placed three drivers in the Top 6, and the Qatari won 1 hour 20 minutes ahead of the multiple French world rally champion., who had lost a lot of time at the start of the rally before making a good comeback. Al-Attiyah and Loeb will only be teammates for one season at Prodrive, since in 2025, the Alsatian will join Dacia.
