A superb tribute to Ayrton Senna!

The McLaren team will pay tribute to Ayrton Senna this Sunday during the Monaco Grand Prix with a green, blue and yellow livery, in the colors of Brazil.

McLaren will swap its very recognizable orange and blue for yellow, blue and green this weekend during the Monaco Grand Prix. The British team has in fact decided to pay tribute to its former driver Ayrton Senna, who died a little over thirty years ago following an accident at Imola, by unveiling a livery in colors inspired by the driver’s helmet and Brazil, the country of the three-time world champion (1988, 1990, 1991).

McLaren, whose colors Senna wore from 1988 to 1993, chose Monaco rather than Imola, where the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was held last Sunday, because it was in the Principality that the Brazilian won the most of victories: six (in 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993). The two McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, respectively fourth and sixth in the world ranking, will also wear outfits in Brazilian colors.

Brown: “An honor to race for him on his most prestigious circuit”

“The team is proud to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Ayrton Senna through this McLaren livery,” reacted team boss Zak Brown. Senna remains revered and respected as Formula 1’s greatest icon and McLaren’s most successful driver. His impact on McLaren is enormous, not only through his record, but also through his presence within the team, and now through his legacy. It is therefore an honor to race for him on his most prestigious circuit in its green, yellow and blue colors. On the thirtieth anniversary of his passing, the team chose to pay tribute to Senna and celebrate his life in one of his favorite and most successful racing venues, Monaco. We can’t wait to race in this beautiful and vibrant livery this weekend. »

B.Senna: “A fantastic way to celebrate his life and legacy”

“It is an honor to pay tribute to Ayrton through these liveries in collaboration with McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive,” said Bianca Senna, Ayrton’s niece and president of his Foundation. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate his life and legacy through his iconic colors on both cars. McLaren meant a lot to him and together they enjoyed many successes, which many still remember today. It will be special to see him racing in the streets of Monaco, a circuit that has given him so much joy and triumph. » What could be better than a victory for Norris or Piastri to pay tribute to him?
