A Martin record at Mans, Quartararo in Q2

The leader of the MotoGP world championship, Jorge Martin, broke the circuit record at Le Mans this Friday as part of qualifying practice for the French Grand Prix. Fabio Quartararo ranked 10th and goes directly to Q2.

MotoGP stops in France this weekend for the fifth date on the calendar. This Friday during qualifying practice, the public at Le Mans was spoiled with spectacle, adventures and incessant twists and turns. This year 2024 is above all marked by the records broken on the circuits taken. The Bugatti circuit did not resist the sparkling form of the drivers. Jorge Martin, Enea Bastianini, Maverick Vinales, Pecco Bagnaia successively took the helm of this session. It got even more carried away when Fabio Di Giannantonio dropped below the 1:30 mark (1:30.683).

Despite his great time, the Italian finished “only” 6th in these tests. Jorge Martin made everyone agree with the brand new record set at Le Mans (1:30.388). The leader of the World Championship is ultimately ahead of his runner-up, Enea Bastianini, and the astonishing rookie Pedro Acosta, 3rd. Maverick Vinales is 4th. French Fabio Quartararo also went under a minute and a half (1:30.788). He finished the session in 10th position, thanks among other things to the failure suffered by Marc Marquez during his final visit. On a bad day, the eight-time world champion fell at the start of practice, he only took 13th place.

The Spaniard will therefore have to go through Q1 this Saturday while the top ten are spared this first qualifying round. Brad Binder, also the victim of a minor fall, ranked 17th. The Tricolor Johann Zarco was relegated even further, to 20th place.
